Fundamentals of Headache and Migraine for Manual Medicine Practitioners


Course Goals:

  • To provide a foundational understanding of the types, aetiologies, and pathophysiology of headaches and migraines.
  • To introduce participants to the principles of diagnosis, including history taking, physical examination, and the use of diagnostic criteria and tools.
  • To familiarise participants with basic manual medicine techniques and other non-pharmacological approaches for the treatment of headaches and migraines.
  • To empower participants with knowledge and skills for prescribing exercises and educating patients about self-management strategies.

Afternoon Session: Diagnosis and Assessment

Day 2: Basic Treatment Strategies

 Morning Session: Manual Techniques in Treatment

  • Basic Manual techniques for headache relief (Articulation/Muscle Energy Techniques /Myofascial Release)
  • Safety considerations and contraindications


Afternoon Session: Integrating Other Therapies

  • Overview of pharmacological treatment options
  • Nutritional and lifestyle considerations
  • Introduction to Structural Cranial techniques with Clinical correlations
    (Part 1: Posterior Quadrant)


Day 3: Exercise and Patient Education

 Morning Session: Exercise Prescription

  • Basic exercises for headache and migraine patients
  • Introduction to the HEADSTRONG program
